El Zonte
108 places listed
El Zonte is the quiet end of the coast — a fishing-village beach that became the original Bitcoin Beach and still moves at that pace. Fewer crowds than El Tunco, a tight-knit surf and remote-work community, black volcanic sand. Go if you want the coast without the noise.
The wave
A rivermouth point break, best at mid to low tide. More forgiving than the reef breaks further east — a common pick for improving surfers, still fun for experienced ones on a good swell.
Getting there
About 90 minutes from San Salvador International Airport by car or shuttle; El Zonte sits west of El Sunzal on the coastal highway, roughly 15–20 minutes past it.
Best for
Longer stays, remote work, a slower pace than El Tunco.
