La Libertad
174 places listed
La Libertad is the working port town at the east end of the coast — less styled for tourism than El Tunco, more of a real Salvadoran town with a market, a fish pier, and its own famous wave. Come for the pier break, the ceviche stands, and a coast experience with fewer other travelers in the frame.
The wave
Punta Roca, a right-hand point break off the pier and one of the best-known waves in Central America — long, powerful, and best on a bigger swell. A serious wave for experienced surfers, not a beginner spot.
Getting there
About 75–90 minutes from San Salvador International Airport by car or shuttle; La Libertad sits at the eastern edge of the coast, past El Tunco and Playa San Blas.
Best for
Advanced surf at Punta Roca, local market life, day trips.
